  1. Hi Nicolette!

Great tips for staying the course when trying to reach your goals. I learned a long time ago that I needed to think in terms of small, attainable segments of my goal rather than focus so much on the broad strokes.

I have to admit, though, that my weight-loss goals have been put on the back-burner somewhat – challenging to fit it in with work and planning activities for the little ones, especially now that school is out. But my youngest starts kindergarten this year, so I’m excited that for the first time in 8 years I’ll have free time during the day – woohoo! :-)

The first thing I’ve committed to doing with that extra time is joining a gym, so I’m really looking forward to getting back on track, weight-wise.

Hey Tisha! It is very hard to schedule workouts and smarter meal choices when we are busy. Unfortunately, it is the area of our lives that is the easiest to overlook and as you say, “put it on the back burner”. That’s why I think keeping the smaller goals in mind tends to work better especially for those who think in all or nothing terms (like I do at times). Is the gym near your home?

      • Actually, the gym is a little out of the way from the day-to-day activities I do with the kids. There is a branch of it which is near the new school my kids are starting in September, so that’s why I know the plan to get to the gym regularly will be much easier then. In the meantime, though, my plan is to start getting up a half-hour earlier so that I can at least start doing some brisk morning walks.

That’s why I ask…sometimes when the gym isn’t nearby it’s hard to fit it into an already hectic schedule. Instead it may be easier to walk around your block or neighborhood. I was walking at a local park that I still had to drive to. I found that the time I was taking to get there could have been spent working out, so I stopped going and started doing my free weights in the back yard during that time. It saved me 45 minutes in travel time and added an extra 45 minutes of workout time. You have a good plan for the summer. Let me know how it goes.

Thank you for the tips. I am more committed to staying in shape and your tips help me to not make staying fit and losing weight a job – instead, now, I see it as a commitment to good health. Since losing 8 pounds I am even more motivated but according to your tips I am no longer concentrating on losing XXX amount of pounds. I want to lose pounds that are healthy for me.
